13 Marines patay sa pinakahuling engkwentro laban sa Maute Group

13 sundalo ng Philippine Marines ang nagbuwis ng buhay habang 40 pa ang malubhang nasugatan sa pinakahuling engkwentro laban sa nalalabing pu­wersa ng Maute sa Marawi City, Lanao del Sur.

Ayon sa ulat, kabilang sa mga napatay ang isang batang opisyal mula sa Antipolo City at isang junior officer mula sa Zamboanga City.

Ayon kay 1st Infantry Division Philippine Army spokesperson Lt. Col. Jo-ar Herrera, nasawi ang mga sundalo sa kasagsagan ng operasyon na mailigtas ang mga na-trap na mga sibilyan.

Inamin ni Herrera na hirap ang kanilang ground troops na matukoy ang lokasyon na pinagtaguan ng Maute snipers.

“The Marines were able to inflict heavy casualties to the terrorist group at the expense of 13 killed-in-action and 40 others Wounded-in-Action at a raging close quarter combat,”  pahayag ni Col. Edgard Arevalo, Chief ng AFP Public Affairs Officeani Arevalo. 14 na oras umano ang itinagal ng bakbakan na nagsimula dakong alas-3:30 ng madaling araw hanggang alas-5 ng hapon.


“We salute these enormous display of heroism and raw courage of these fallen Marines in the course of the fight to clear Marawi of the remaining Members of the Maute-ISIS Group,” pahayag ni Arevalo.

“This temporary setback has not diminished our resolve a bit. It instead primed up our determination to continue our prudent advances to neutralize the enemy, save the innocent lives trapped in the fight, and set the conditions for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of Marawi”, dagdag pa ng opisyal.
